WHAT IS FASTING?

Throughout the Bible, believers fasted for three reasons:

1. To become more aware of God’s presence

2. To confirm God’s will and anointing

3. To hear a word from God in a time of need

Matthew 6:16-18 says:

When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Fasting is the act of sacrificing food to focus our lives on God. It is not so much about following a set of specific rules but about dedicating time to seek the Lord and focusing on our relationship with Him.

As you join us in this season of fasting, determine the specific things you would like to pray for and present them to God. Also, challenge yourself to set aside a little more time each week to pray, worship, and study. Here are some options for the type of fast you can do …

• Fruits and Vegetables ONLY

• 8-hour fast (9am-5pm) NO FOOD

• 12-hour fast (6am-6pm) NO FOOD

ONLY WATER WITH THE FAST YOU CHOOSE
